Literacy development is at the heart of all early learning. A child’s reading is the single most important indicator of academic success. Literacy is how we communicate in society.
In this class, students will build on the skills in the “Early Gr. 1” class. Students will gain a greater understanding of the role silent e plays at the end of words and be able to apply this to reading.
Some specific skills they will learn are review of short and long vowel sounds, vowel/consonant patterns, soft /c/ ce pattern (face, race, space), soft /g/ -ge -edge patterns (edge, wedge, huge, stage).
Reading for understanding and critical thinking is essential for academic success in all subject areas.
This junior level reading comprehension class will focus on working with larger decodable words, developing reading comprehension strategies and reflecting critically on a text. Students will build the skills and strategies required to be confident literacy learners.
In this private session, students will work 1:1 with the teacher to develop strategies and build understanding in the identified area of need (math or language). Area of focus for each session will be determined in consultation (email or phone) with parents prior to the session. Homework help is also available upon request.
